I was...my first time....probably at other camps also. If you haven't been to a VQ camp, or even if you have, there may be some anxiety that you are feeling. That's normal.
Keep this in mind: rides are divided into ability groups, just like other VQ rides.
Ride smart; use everything that you have learned about group riding: stay out of the wind, conserve energy, keep your head up, look a few riders ahead up the road.
Don't be a hero. No one cares how you ride as long as your ride like a VQer. This means: safe cycling above all, concentrating and paying attention in the peleton, riding hard, helping out your fellow VQer, sharing your knowledge both on and off the bike, and communicating during the ride with your group. You don't have to be the first across the finish line and it makes no difference if you are last up the mountain. Ride like a VQer and you will be respected.
Measure your effort. Ride within yourself. Pull longer if you have good legs, pull shorter if you don't.
Follow the instructions of the coaches.
Pay attention during the nightly meetings. The next day's ride will be reviewed.
Have fun. This is a gorgeous place to cycle with lots of variety.
